Celebrating the Music of weather report, 4 great drummers, Steve Gadd, Omar Hakim, Dennis Chambers and Vinnie Colaiuta. They're all playing in the pocket, which is great because it proves that chops isn't everything. We know these guys have the chops, but they know when to use and not to use them. That's the difference.
The greatest thing that I desire in drumming is to play with groove and pocket and to communicate with other musicians without having to think what I'm doing from a technical frame of mind and if I do ever get there (which I'm far off from doing at the moment!) I'll know that I've made a giant step in my progress in drumming! These are the guys that give me inspiration and they're all on one cd, which is great! They're the best examples of chop masters and pocket players.
Michael Brecker plays an absolutely breath-taking solo on "Elegant People" (in my view, one of the greatest compositions of Wayne Shorter). As does Sanborn on "Cannonball". Randy Brecker plays brilliantly on "Palladium". Then on "Cucumber Slumber", Dennis Chambers plays with John Schofield, (not a favourite guitarist of mine)and Marcus Miller on bass. He is the best bass player in the world because of that awesome tone. It's a great song and it's also good because you get to listen to Dennis and Marcus work together which I've never heard before.

The "Celebrating the Music of Weather Report" CD is a pleasant and enjoyable one. One of my friends at my old job used to love listening to it.

Yes. If youre looking for a lot of drumistic blowing, you would be mistaken.
Altho it's a little more "listener friendly" [img]wink.gif[/img] than the authentic WR jams, it's still a great disc nevertheless. It's more about the groove & the tunes [which is the point, anyway] [img]cool.gif[/img]
